“R.I.P” 2-17-19

Gravestones sometimes have R.I.P. engraved upon them.  Sometimes, we are confident that the departed are resting in peace and at other times, we are not too sure.

Let me offer another thought.  Why not “rest in peace” while we are still among the living and not have to wait until we die?  It seems to me that all too often, we live out our lives by being anxious, on the run, fearful and just plain ‘tuckered out’ from our daily pace.

May I suggest a simple solution – “stop and smell the roses.”  By this, I mean, take time to appreciate the people and the beauty around us.

The “peace” part comes from knowing who God is and believing that His Son died to make us free.  Not only are we free from eternal separation, but free from worrying about our final destination.  So, when our “ticket is punched,” we can rest in the fact that we will not be left at the station.  In addition, we have been promised a peace that passes all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

May the Lord grant you His peace today and the days to come.
