The hot topic/issue of the day deals with abortion – especially third term abortion. I wish to address this issue with a personal story. Late in my mother’s life, she told me that when she was pregnant with me that she suffered from morning sickness. While that is not uncommon, it continued on until my birth. At one point, her doctor told her that an abortion would solve the problem. Please understand that this was in the early 1940’s and way before Roe v. Wade.
I would like to think that because she carried me full term that my life has had a positive impact on my students, athletes that I coached, students that I taught how to drive and now as a pastor of our small church in Montana. I also think about the fact that I was a son to my parents, a brother, a husband to my wife, a father to our two children and a grandfather to our three grandchildren. I often wonder what our world would be like if those sons and daughters would have been born.
I do not condemn those who have chosen to have abortions and I would not have condemned my mother if she had made that choice. However, I do take issue with those who gleefully promote it and those who make financial gain from it.
I praise God for a mother who considered me more important than herself. Thanks Mom!
